We're excited to announce Screenshot Search — our most-requested feature and the most significant expansion of our search capabilities since launch. Starting today, you can upload any still image taken from a video and find the original clip across all 50+ platforms we index.
How It Works
Screenshot Search uses the same visual fingerprinting engine that powers our video upload search, adapted for single-frame analysis. When you upload a screenshot, our system:
- Extracts visual features from the image using our proprietary CNN model
- Searches for video frames with similar visual signatures in our index
- Groups matching frames by video, ranking results by confidence and publication date
- Returns matching videos with platform, uploader, and publication date
What It's Perfect For
- Journalists & fact-checkers: Got a screenshot from a messaging app? Find where it originally came from.
- Content creators: Someone screenshotted your video and reposted it as a static image — Screenshot Search traces it back.

Limitations to Know
Screenshot Search works best when the screenshot captures a visually distinctive moment — a face, a unique location, a striking visual composition. Generic scenes (plain backgrounds, talking heads against neutral walls) may return broader matches. For these cases, combine Screenshot Search with a keyword search for best results.

Screenshot Search is available to all users today. Switch to the Screenshot mode in the search widget on our homepage, upload up to 5 frames for improved accuracy, and get results in under 10 seconds. Premium users can save and track their Screenshot Search results from the dashboard.
